Photographer Swam With Sharks For 10 Years To Capture These Shots

Many people are afraid of sharks, coming across one while they are swimming in the ocean. But for photographer Michael Muller, sharks are very fascinating, and make for awesome subjects in his photography series and book, SHARKS, published by Taschen.

Muller was not always a nature photographer. He is well-known for his celebrity work. He photographed the cover of Rihanna's Unapologetic album, the movie poster for 'Deadpool' and has also photographed Michael Phelps during the Olympics.

Over the last 10 years, he has developed a fascination with sharks after his wife booked him a cage-diving trip for his birthday. Of course, Muller told Business Insider, before he went, he was a little apprehensive — especially after seeing the movie "Jaws." But despite that fear, he felt compelled to go.

"I went out to Guadalupe Island, about 200 nautical miles off Mexico's Baja Peninsula; it’s a volcanic island," he said. "I was the first one in the water at six in the morning ... I was down there for about five minutes, and out of the darkness comes this first great white. It just swims right by me and we lock eyes, and I was like 'I see you and I know you see me'. There was a connection."

From that point on, he said, he knew that he had to continue to dive and photograph these majestic creatures. Here are some of his breathtaking shots that he has taken over the past few years.

Check out more of the original article on Business Insider where you can read more about

Michael Muller's book SHARKS is currently available for purchase online and a Collector’s Edition version, that comes in its own shark cage, will also be in stores in October. If you are interested in getting your own copy, check it out here

Check Out These Photos Of The Night Sky With Incredible Detail

The night sky is amazing and seeing a photo of it that has so much detail is hard to find! Now these amazing sights can be captured on film by amateurs in their Sydney, Australia backyards.

Australia’s astro-photographers are using rapid advances in technology to take advantage of some of the best stargazing skies in the world and we wanted to share some of their awesome photos with you that we found on the Herald Sun

“You’d swear that some of these pictures were taken from spacecraft, but they’re not,” said John Sarkissian, from the Parkes radio telescope.

Mr. Sarkissian said cameras from 20 years ago used to capture only 2 per cent of the light and detail that they do now. With that said, now photographers can stitch together dozens of images, which have been captured over 60 hours of lens exposure.

These images are just some of the 24 being entered into the 2016 CWAS David Malin Awards which is named after the famed photographer, who brought galactic photography to mainstream Australia.

Photographer James Stone said that Australia is able to see the Milky Way better than most other countries on Earth. We hope you enjoy all these photos as much as we do!

Photo Of The Week

This week's photo of the week was submitted by David Hartley. Here is what he had to say about his photo:

"I was shooting butterflies at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia.  Walking past the hatchery I saw these butterflies and shot them in passing, figuring it would be a throw away shot because the hatchery was a plastic enclosure, and I thought the plastic would distract from the shot. As it turned out, it was my favorite shot that day!"
