Photographers Capture Beauty In The Stars Over Washington State

Our beautiful world is full of amazing landscapes, from rolling meadows, large mountains, deep valleys and majestic oceans. But if photographed right, the starry sky can also be an amazing thing to photograph. We found some amazing photography of the nighttime sky and stars that are taken over Washington State. These images were captured for the 8th Astrofest Astrophotography Exhibition showcase and the photos are quite stunning.

“Curator Dr John Goldsmith said, “We have some lovely entries featuring the supermoon; we have a lot of images of deep space objects done by people using good telescopes.

“Astro photographers love to travel to really remote places all over the State and record these amazing images,” Dr Goldsmith said in the article on The West Australian. “We are just so fortunate to be in WA and have the dark night skies that (allow us to) see the Milky Way. That’s one of the reasons why the photography that comes out of WA is so good.”

You voted and Smithsonian.com has announced the winners of their 14th Annual Photo Contest! The contest ran from March 22, 2016 - November 30, 2016 and received over 48,000 submissions from photographers in 146 countries and territories.

Contestants submitted photos to the following seven categories: Natural World, The American Experience, Travel, People, Altered, Mobile, and Sustainable Travel.

Smithsonian Magazine Announces 14th Annual Photo Contest Finalists And You Can Vote For The Winner!

Smithsonian Magazine had their 14th Annual Photo Contest ran from March 22 - November 30, 2016. With over 48,000 submissions from photographers in 146 countries and territories to choose from, the judges have narrowed down to 70 finalists that you have the opportunity to vote on to help choose the winners. 

Contestants submitted photos to the following seven categories: Natural World, The American Experience, Travel, People, Altered Images, Mobile, and Sustainable Travel. The Sustainable Travel category is made possible through the support of United Eco-Skies.

Voting for the Readers’ Choice winner will close on Monday, March 27. Voting is limited to one vote per user per day. Click here to vote for the Readers’ Choice winner from among the 70 finalists. The Grand Prize, Readers’ Choice, and seven category winners will be announced on Tuesday, March 28.
